Unwind PT

IMPORTANT UPDATES

Hello all!

Schedule Updates

My schedule is currently open through the beginning of October. With school season starting back up, starting in September my hours will be adjusted a little later in the morning to accommodate school drop offs and such. However, there may be some mornings that I can add on to my schedule, so it can be helpful to add your name to the waitlist.

I treat on Mondays and Thursdays in Eagan (9:30am-3pm) and Tuesdays in Shoreview (9am-3pm).

Policy Updates

Also, please note an update to my cancellation policy. I now require a 48 hour notice of cancellation. Cancellations less than 48 hours will be charged a $45 cancellation fee. I have always been very forgiving in this department, but with a recent increase in last minute cancellations, I want to make sure people are valuing their appointments and knowing when you book, these spots are reserved specifically for you.

I am also now requiring New Evaluations that book to put down a $45 down payment towards their first appointment. This lets me know you are serious about your appointment. If this is an issue for you, please call or email and I am happy to further chat with you.

Thank you SO much for understanding and most importantly for trusting me with your care. I am truly grateful for each person that chooses to book with me and I pray I can bring any amount of healing to you!

Physical Therapy

As a physical therapist, I not only care about the strength and movement of your body, but the mobility of your fascia. As a physical therapist, I not only care about the strength and movement of your body, but the mobility of your fascia. Fascia is a thin connective tissue that engulfs everything in our body (i.e. muscles, veins, nerves, arteries, organs, etc) and when it is restricted in any way, it can create dysfunction of that tissue and ultimately lead to pain. My job is to find these restrictions in your body and release the fascia utilizing a technique called fascial counterstrain. This technique is a very hands on approach that is often described as relaxing and gentle, yet with incredible impact to the body. The benefits of releasing tight and restricted fascia in the body truly are endless. I absolutely LOVE doing this work and I look forward to unraveling your story.

DR. KATIE’S APPROACH

Dr. Katie Slaughter is a physical therapist focused on holistic healing of the body through hands on fascial release, specifically a technique called Fascial Counterstrain. She passionately believes God designed our bodies to heal and is dedicated in finding the ROOT CAUSE to your pain or dysfunction.

Dr. Katie approaches the body as a whole, meaning not just assessing where your pain or dysfunction is present, but assessing all regions that could be involved. Our fascia is engulfed in EVERY structure in our body, so a fascial restriction down at your foot or around your bladder can absolutely impact and pull on anything further up the chain. She especially loves assessing old injuries and scars, as they can play a big role in your pain pattern.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS WORK

Dr. Katie works with a WIDE variety of individuals, including chronic pain, back/neck/SI pain, Sciatica/radicular pain, headaches/migraines, concussions, auto-immune/lymes/mold detoxification, TMJ, knee/hip/shoulder/foot- all joint pains and injuries, muscle strains, and more. In addition, fascial counterstrain pairs really well with those working with functional medicine providers to assist in supporting the body through detoxification and further healing. Dr. Katie offers in-person sessions with offices located in both Shoreview and Eagan.

WHAT CAN I EXCECT FROM A SESSION

A session at Unwind Physical Therapy (60, 90, 120min) includes a thorough review of your medical history, previous injuries, surgeries, and your current pain pattern and symptom presentation. She will assess all regions of your body, looking for areas of restriction. From there, she will move into treatment, primarily including fascial counterstrain. As mentioned, this technique is a very hands on approach that is often described as gentle and relaxing, yet with incredible impact to the body.

Our bodies were designed to protect (i.e. car accident, sports injury, trauma, lyme’s/mold, etc), but the problem occurs when the body doesn’t release that protective fascial hold and leads to pain and inflammation. Fascial counterstrain works by intentionally positioning the body in a way that allows that protective spasm to release, draining out inflammation and toxins with it, and restoring function of the structure involved. Katie has seen such amazing healing through this technique and desires to share and spread it to all in need of healing. She primarily uses this technique, paired with individualized exercises and education on holistic tools and practices that Katie personally researches and utilizes herself. She would love to be a part of your healing journey.

FAQS

Does Unwind PT accept Insurance?

Unwind PT is a cash based practice, meaning we do not contract with any insurances at this time. We accept cash, check, HSA, and credit card as forms of payment. However, a superbill can be offered upon request to submit to your insurance for an out of network claim. It may be worth checking your out of network benefits, as your insurance may reimburse a decent amount from your visit depending on your insurance provider or your plan.

While Dr. Katie understands paying out of pocket for a service you may have insurance for can feel like a major investment, she can promise you, she is not your “standard physical therapist”. The days of coming to a PT for your pain or rehab, getting a sheet of exercises and sent on your merry way SHOULD NOT represent our profession, but unfortunately this picture gets painted all too often. Choosing to go cash based allows Dr. Katie to treat how she feels is best for the patient without limiting her time or restricting the way in which she treats. In addition, many insurances often require extensive paperwork that ultimately take away from her time with the patient and end up spilling into her family life. She can promise you, she is 100% invested in YOUR health and outcome.

Are there discounted rates or packages?

Unwind PT has primarily been a pay as you go practice at this time. There may be consideration of discounted packages or a monthly wellness membership if enough expressed interest in the future.

I am interested in coming to Unwind PT, but cannot afford your services.

If you find value in what Unwind PT has to offer, but just cannot swing the full payment, please reach out. I am dedicated to looking into options to try and get you the treatment you deserve.
